Why We Have Strict Guidelines on AI-Generated Images

As confirmed by the U.S. Copyright Office, works generated solely by artificial intelligence (AI) without significant human creative input are not eligible for copyright protection in the United States. Many AI tools are also trained on datasets that may include copyrighted material, creating potential legal ambiguity and infringement risks.

From a production perspective, AI-generated images are frequently low-resolution, contain artifacts, lack clean vector scalability, and are often unsuitable for large-format professional signage applications. We have seen many cases where customers provide AI outputs that require complete recreation because the files simply will not produce crisp, durable results on signs, wraps, or branded graphics.

We draw a clear line between legally sound, high-resolution commercial artwork with verifiable origin and licensing versus casual personal-use AI generations.

Our Official Policy on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Generated Artwork

SiGNtastic! does not accept artwork that is solely or predominantly generated by AI tools. This includes (but is not limited to) Midjourney, DALL-E, Stable Diffusion, Leonardo, Flux, Grok Image Generation, Banana, or any similar artificial intelligence image generators.

We prefer and strongly encourage original designs created by the customer or a professional human designer. Commercially licensed artwork is acceptable only when accompanied by verifiable proof of a license that allows commercial use and modification for signage.

Accepted Artwork Requirements

• All submitted files must be original designs created by a human artist/designer or properly licensed commercial artwork with verifiable licensing documentation.
• Files must be high-resolution and print-ready, suitable for professional large-format production (minimum 300 DPI at final output size).
• Preferred formats: Vector files (.AI, .EPS, .PDF) or high-quality raster files (.PSD, .TIFF, high-resolution JPG).
• Low-resolution or “reference-only” images (very common with AI outputs) will not be accepted as final production artwork. These may only be used internally as visual references.

What If Your Idea Started with AI?

We understand that many customers use AI tools for initial concepts or inspiration. In these situations:

• Submit the AI-generated image as a visual reference only.
• Our experienced in-house graphic design team will recreate a professional, original, high-quality version in proper signage software.
• This ensures crisp lines, proper scalability, correct resolution, and full legal compliance for real-world signage use.
• Standard graphic design and recreation fees apply for this service.

We do not simply upscale or lightly edit low-resolution AI outputs. Professional signage requires files built correctly from the ground up for optimal results and longevity.

Customer Warranties and Responsibilities

By submitting any artwork or files to SiGNtastic!, you warrant and represent that:

1. The artwork is not solely or predominantly AI-generated.
2. You are the legal copyright owner or you hold all necessary commercial rights and licenses to reproduce and modify the image for signage purposes.
3. You will indemnify, defend, and hold harmless SiGNtastic!, its owners, officers, and employees from any and all claims, losses, damages, costs, or liabilities (including reasonable attorney fees) arising from any intellectual property infringement or related issues connected to the submitted materials.

We reserve the right to review submitted files, request additional documentation regarding ownership or licensing, or reject any artwork that does not comply with this policy. If artwork is rejected, we will notify you and discuss suitable options, which may include our design services or order adjustments.
